You can buy a beach sticker at Town Hall to be able to freely go to all the beaches in Southampton Town....Located in Southampton Village, Both Town Hall and Village Hall have the ability to sell you stickers for your car. You need your registration and a lease or a deed to get one for free. Enjoy the sites of the "wilderness" that is still left here in the same spot where settlers first came ashore in 1640. Conscience point is the one place where you can still feel the beauty of those who came here then from Lynn Massachusetts; this is what they saw when they first came ashore and decided that this would be the place to settle down and plan their future in the New World!

The sign marks the head of the original trail that was used by the earliest settlers. Unassuming and breathtaking in it's unspoiled beauty, Conscience Point is a place NOT to miss when you come here. Follow North Sea Road from the Village of Southampton and go North all the way to the end. Conscience Point is on the right side of the road. Here, there is an unassuming road that goes back in to a parking area where you can park and take the lovely walk to the point of entry.

 The earliest families who came to The Hamptons looked for the Bay life to fill their summer vacation needs. Many of these families came from Connecticut, looking for a summer of fishing and quiet enjoyment. Many built their homes right on the inlets and the tributaries that the North Sea Area is known for.  Small fishermen cottages dot the landscape and many have been there since the turn of the 20th century.   

---Back on the road, you will pass the intriguing Salms Estate on the left as you head North towards the Great Peconic Bay. "The Port of Missing Men" was named after the 17 men who died on a shipwreck in the port in the early 1800's. It is the location of famous hunting grounds called Cows Neck. Oil Tycoon Henry Huttleson Rogers bought 1200 acres and built the Lodge for his family and friends as an escape from the lavish home (Black Point) in the estate section in Southampton Village.   

Here, men have gathered over the decades to hunt and to enjoy respite from the business world--It is also a favorite of European royalty who have enjoyed frequent pheasant hunting parties over the years. Currently, the Lodge is owned by Willie Salm, widow of Peter Salm who was the son of Millicent Rogers and her Austrian husband. The majestic entry to the fabled lodge and estate stands open and welcoming, however, rarely is the public invited into this American Treasure.  Once in a great while Willie Salm will hold an open house in conjunction with the Southampton Historical Museum; Fund raisers for the museum have been held there with enormous success. The Lodge is a copy of European Shooting Lodges, with an enormous fireplace a the end of the main Hall. There, the family still gathers at certain winter hohlidays and a traditon from the earliest part of Southampton history becomes real once again.
